Statement – Momentum Towards Ratification of COP21 Agreement Extremely Encouraging

(Toronto) The President of the Global Renewable Fuels Alliance (GRFA), Bliss Baker, today released the following statement in recognition of 62 parties to the COP21 convention ratifying the agreement, accounting for over 50% of total global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

“The GRFA is extremely encouraged by the momentum towards the implementation of the COP21 agreement.”

“With 62 countries representing over 50% of global GHG emissions committing to definitive action to reduce their national emissions, we are one step closer to the first enforceable agreement that will begin the transition to a low carbon global economy.”

“The recent pledges by the governments of China, India, Brazil and the U.S. to endorse the COP21 agreement demonstrates the level of mutual commitment from some of the world’s largest countries to take binding action to reduce global GHG emissions.“

“With national emissions accounting for 51.89% of the total GHG emissions covered under ratification, we are tantalizingly close to the first enforceable climate agreement.”

“With a binding GHG emissions agreement finally on the horizon, the challenge has changed from identifying what actions need to be taken, to finding the best policy solutions to achieve them.”

“GRFA members are committed to the fight against climate change through the development of new technologies and best practices, in order to produce renewable fuels with the smallest possible footprint. Our members would be pleased to offer whatever help we can in the development of policy to achieve the goals of the COP21 agreement.”
